we did the entire class fighting from the feet, 5 minute matches. My side of the room had chris, nick, ben and a guy paul, who i just met, Bill told me " becareful chris, paul is a good wrestler.
My first match is with Paul, we start off grip fighting he wants to shoot, I throw a flying arm bar, then must convert to omoplata, Paul rolls hard I lose the grips, He is crazy fast and strong, a high level wrestler with good balance. I try multiple sweeps then I get one and mount him, he bridges insta…

Today we did some old school Gracie self defense kinda stuff and kesa Gatame escapes,
This made me think of my BJJ beginnings and how kesa Gatame perplected the guys I trained with, I had alot of success from that position and one day my instructor, josh, told me to "move on" to something else,
At first i thought he was getting pissed that i was using " judo", and he was not a real fan of Judo and that "Judo" was tapping his blue belts.
But on closer examination, I think what Josh was really tel…

we are placed into difficult situations all the time, and on the 5 of Nov I was placed just outside of harms way, but just in reach to lend a hand to my fellow Soldiers. All, that were involved did what we are trained to do and remembered not to leave a fallen comrade. My prays go out to all those who have been touched by the events of 11/5.

Morning class was taught by coach Mike, chokes from everywhere!
When we go live Mark b asked me to do some no Gi, to help him prepare for his ROC fight. Just as long as he is dropping elbows on me i do great against mark, I had a chance to use my no gi passes, have not had to do this in a while and it takes me back to where grappling began for me and being in someones guard was fine, cause it was mma and being on top was great.
lucky for me my opening and passing where near perfect I pass right…

Tuesday night and we go live real early in the class, you guessed it King of the hILL, from Open guard.
YOU CANNOT AT ANYTIME CLOSE YOUR GUARD!
Prof Bill sends us out to defend, sweep or submit.
I must admit I really had to PEE! I was not sure how long I could stay out , I went thru my first 5 or 6 matches and then Mark B came out. mark is tough. And I really like Mark, he is one of my favorite training partners. We go back and forth, and at one point I thought I peed myself! hahaha! So I give u…

For me getting better is most important, it drives everything around me. Whether it's my family, my business, or hobbies.
being a good dad is what i am most concerned about, I want my kids to grow up to be happy and feel success they way i have. Being satisfied with with "who" you are is pretty tough, many people are miserable.
I do no have the most pressive job in the world, I do love it though and love my co workers and clients. repairing cars has not always been easy for me, it took alot of t…

I watch ken Primola's videos, alot, and today he helped me escape an arm bar attack from one of the best Bjj guys in NJ.
Sergio and I , started our match with him mounted on top of me. As if a match with Sergio was not already difficult enough. AND this is what Prof said he wanted us to do, so there I am.
Sergio fakes a choke, then goes right for an arm bar, I could feel it coming and Sergio knows how to finish, I know this well, he tapped me on thursday with an arm bar; the only tapping I did t…

bLOG POST 100!
mANY TIMES i HAVE HEARD PEOPLE SAY gi is better than no gi
OR that gi helps your no gi
ETC ETc
Today I want to share something that i have experienced today,
something i now know for fact, at least as I pertains to me.
I did a bunch of no gi matches today, i have not done no gi since April. I have done gi since april religiously just because i am trying to learn the Gi and progress to the next level
So i wondered how i would do no gi, against mostly mma fighters who do no…

Tonight MMa class was so full I couldn't even count how many people were there, it was awesome to see!
As far as BJJ
we did more leg attacks, one variation on the ankle lock that is sure to break your opponents foot off his leg!
I don't attack legs much, choking people is so much more rewarding, We also did some x guard sweeps, I like this stuff, x guard and i are friends, not close friends yet but getting there.
Prof Bill tells us all to line up, he then picks some folks to go out for
KING…

Bjj class was typical, My matches all went pretty smooth, I tried the x sweep for the first time and failed. I almost used the triangle from the back take, I was so close but we ran out of time, I can see how this one is gonna ruin alot of people's day!
Most interesting things is the news that Kurt is not fighting Frankie, Kurts back is bad enough that he had to pull out. The UFC is sending him for a MRI, I guess they want to be sure he is really hurt. It seems like alot of fights are falling a…

Today we did some x guard stuff and of course butter fly as well, fore there must be a firm understanding of the butterfly before you learn x guard!
Whats really weird is that Glenn called me last night and we talked about x guard, and some variations he picked up from Sidney Silva,
We got on the subject of how we are relearning some technics, stuff we got from an old coach, He asked me specifics about s-mount.
Before i told him this I mentioned how I had to change it from how I was first taught…

I actually slept last night, for 6 hours straight, A new record!
The morning class was good, we did flow drills, something Prof Bill and I talked about a few days prior, This is one of the things I like about Bill, he is 100% open to suggestion. Flow drilling helps in so many ways, I do it at home, thats how I put chain attacks together, its powerful stuff!
Afterwards I did a match with sergio, it had no time limit, it went on forever, he finished me with an ankle attack on my fractured leg, ouc…

I had a crappy nights sleep and woke up feeling piss poor. I decided to go to class and try and "coast" thru the drilling portion and not go live afterwards.
ahahaha!
Prof Bill had us do live takedowns, single to doubles, then we fought the entire class from the clinch.
Clinch fighting takes alot of energy, especially IF you want to stay on your feet. I had a bout 7 or 8 matches and didn't not even come close to losng my position, i was like hey i am getting good at this,
THEn I hear Prof Bill s…

Wanderlei Silva and the UFC are going to Austraila In february, and IF we can get a baby sitter for the girls I am gonna be part of Wanderlei's entourage.
My pal Glenn called yesterday, he knows i am open to almost anything, and his buddy Wanderlei invited and Glenn mentioned to bring the "best" training partners he could find,,, lol OKay Wanderlei did not say that exactly, Glenn is part of Wand's family and Glenn is part of my family , so I get to tag along for just that reason, Wanderlei sees…

Its funny how many people I am in contact with, that I never even met, thru Facebook.
Somehow just because of BJJ we connect and share our lives.
Guys like Tom Deblass, Ken Primola, Xande Ribeiro, Vitor Vianna whom I have never met in person are all people I get inspiration from daily thru faceook.
Seeing the path ahead is important for me, these guys help alot, kinda like having voices in your head.
And these voices are saying positive things, stuff that keeps it "real".
Tom Deblass sticks out…

i did the night class, and holy crap was it crowded.
I got lucky and Prof Bill put me with Tony Rivera, I love it when I get paired with Tony, he is a great drilling partner who always makes sure your learning things correctly. He has also been very helpful in makng sure I move quicker, quicker attacks are hard to defend. Tony attacks faster than just about anyone I have ever trained with, your done before you even know what hit you.
We did guard passing king of the Hill. I once again get to def…

Morning class had 6 guys that are MMa fighters, 5 are pro. So we fought from the clinch. I have really good defense against the takedown, but i am kinda lazy otherwise. I can get off the cage/ wall as I please, something I learned when I was training MMA. nd the takedown part isnot my strength at all, and today Prof Bill was 'hawking" me, he ws watching me like crazy, after we finished he came over and said " your getting to like this, I can tell". Funny part is the only reason I was taking peop…

I almost did not post this.
But it seems important, at least to me and its my blog so i get to pick what I blog about
and if your bored with it, go watch BJJ videos on youtube instead,,
523am and I find myself awake, start thinking about how Sergio choked nick with a clock choke, then I began thinkng of my weakness's in BJJ and how I need to find and repair them IF i am ever to get to the next level.
This for some might seem like insanity, but its how my brain works, its been my life since I can…
